Leon Portable #7
This is a great three hour review session of all parts of the SAT along with test taking tactics (that really work!) and ‘how-to-concentrate-for-four-hours’ techniques. An English and math teacher will be there to give you an inside look at the SAT and will show you how to do your best on this important test. This program will help not only those taking the SAT now but students who will be taking this test anytime in the near future. Pizza and breadsticks will be served along with other refreshments to help ease the SAT jitters during this very helpful and timely workshop. Cost is $59.00.
Please sign up directly through the SolutionSkills website, www.solutionskills.com or call 681-6543 to register over the phone.
All questions about the course may be directed to Randy Vickers at the SolutionSkills office or by email at heyvick@solutionskills.
COLLEGE ADMISSIONS TESTS
The SAT and the ACT are both tests used by colleges in making admissions decisions. The chart below shows some comparisons. Students who will be seeking admission to a four-year college or university should take one of the college admissions tests during their junior year, or as early as possible during their sophomore year. It is recommended that students register online by accessing the appropriate website (below). Materials for mailing your registration are available in the Leon Guidance Office. Fee waivers are available for students meeting family income guidelines.

APPLICATION FOR BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIPS
OPENS DECEMBER 1, 2009
The 2010-11 Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA)
will be available online December 1, 2009.
The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) Web site at
www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org provides the FFAA to students seeking state scholarship and grant awards for the 2010-11 postsecondary academic year.
The application should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Students will need their Social Security number and their GPA.
Steps Students Should Take to Complete the Application Process:
• Go to www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.
• Select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications and Apply Here to complete and submit an online application.
• Select Programs Offered to view detailed state programs information.
• Pay attention to program deadlines listed in the application conditions section, the application results screen, and the application acknowledgement communication, sent to the student’s e-mail address on the application.
Watch for official e-mail acknowledgement communication, which provides each Student with instructions for obtaining a USER ID and PIN to access the submitted application, update information on the application, and check the status of the application.
This single application is utilized to evaluate the student for all of the programs listed below:
• Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program – Deadline By High School Graduation Date
• José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant – Deadline April 1
• Rosewood Family Scholarship Program – Deadline April 1
• Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans and Servicemembers
– Deadline April 1
• Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program – Deadline April 15
It is important for students to complete the Florida Financial Aid Application even if they plan to attend college outside the state of Florida. Bright Futures eligibility will remain in effect for three years following high school graduation and the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship Program is a national scholarship program.
